Rockford RiverHawks News Release

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Kiley Vaughn's ninth-inning smash down the line at third base kept the Rockford RiverHawks on top of the Frontier League West Division.

Vaughn singled home pinch-runner Olmo Rosario with one down in the bottom of the ninth to give the RiverHawks a 4-3 win over the Gateway Grizzlies.

Rockford, which broke a four-game losing streak, regained sole possession of first place in the West. The Grizzlies, whose five-game winning streak ended, are in second place, a game back.

Each side committed three errors and allowed two unearned runs. Rockford starter Josh Tomsu balked in Greg Stevens in the sixth inning to put Gateway in front. The RiverHawks rallied to tie the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the inning on Aaron McEachran's RBI single.

In the ninth, Ben Fjelland led off with a double to left off Gateway starter Joe Dooley. After a groundout advanced pinch-running Rosario to third, Ryan Hamilton entered in relief. Vaughn worked the count full, then singled to drive home the winning run.

Dooley (8-1), the Frontier League ERA leader, lost for the first time since last August. The Gateway ace has never beaten the RiverHawks in a three-year career.

Tomsu became the first Rockford pitcher to throw a complete game this year. Tomsu (6-1) did not allow a man to reach scoring position after the sixth-inning balk. He tossed a five-hitter.

The series finale is at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. Youth Replica Jersey Night is sponsored by Dr Pepper and WTVO-17.

All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 – the Hub and at the team website. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 12th season.
