RiverHawks Rally, Take Series Over Gateway

Rockford RiverHawks News Release


The Rockford RiverHawks took the series 2-1 with a 5-4 win over the Gateway Grizzlies at GMC Stadium.

Ryan Sullivan put Gateway on the board first in the bottom of the fifth inning with a home run. Sullivan's home run was the first hit off of the RiverHawks starting pitcher Justin Dowdy.

The RiverHawks took the lead in the top of sixth inning when Ryan Larson hit a two-run double.

Gateway regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Greg Stevens hit a RBI single and Brad Bauder scored on a Dowdy balk.

Rockford tied the game again in the top of the seventh when Rico Santana drove home a run on a sacrifice fly.

Daylon Monette gave Gateway the lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The RiverHawks rallied again in the top of the ninth for two runs. Larson hit a two-out double giving the ‘Hawks the 5-4 lead.

Jesen Merle picked up the win for the RiverHawks in relief. Josh Latimer got the save. Michael Golden took the loss for Gateway.

The RiverHawks have Monday off. The ‘Hawks return to action at 7:05 Tuesday against the Richmond Roosters at Marinelli Field. It will be "2 For Tuesday" featuring two hot dogs or two sodas for $2 sponsored by Dr Pepper/7-Up. Call (815) 964-BALL for tickets.
