
RiverDogs Sweep Shorebirds in Saturday's Doubleheader

SALISBURY, MD: The Delmarva Shorebirds (11-11) were swept by the Charleston RiverDogs (15-8) on Saturday as Delmarva fell in a pair of two-run games.
GAME 1
Delmarva jumped out to a second-inning lead against Charleston starter, Marcus Johnson as Erison Placencia produced a long single off the right-field wall to score Anderson De Los Santos, giving the Shorebirds a 1-0 advantage.
Brandon Young helped set the tone on the mound as the Minor League rehabber dealt three scoreless innings, allowing just one man to reach to help maintain a 1-0.
Zack Showalter entered for Young in the fourth and followed suit by dealing two scoreless innings to keep it 1-0 through four and a half frames.
The Shorebirds then got an insurance run on a mammoth home run out of the ballpark by Stiven Acevedo to make it a 2-0 game in the bottom of the fifth.
However, the RiverDogs would even the game on one swing in the top of the sixth on a two-run homer by Xavier Isaac to even the game at two apiece.
With the game tied at two in the seventh, Charleston took the lead on an RBI single by Chandler Simpson. Cooper Kinney then drove in an additional run immediately after to put Delmarva behind 4-2.
The Shorebirds brought the winning run to the plate in the seventh, but Cade Halemanu got Carter Young to pop out to shallow center to end the game with the RiverDogs winning 4-2.
Marcus Johnson (3-5) earned the win for Charleston with Brayner Sanchez (0-1) taking the loss. Cade Halemanu (2) was awarded the save.

GAME 2
The Shorebirds looked the bounce-back in game two and got off to another strong start as they scored two in the opening frame on a two-run single by Anderson De Los Santos to make it 2-0 after an inning.
Edgar Portes settled in with the early lead as he locked down the RiverDogs, tossing four shutout innings to keep it 2-0 Delmarva into the fifth inning.
Charleston then began another comeback attempt in the fifth as they pulled with one on an RBI single by Chandler Simpson. Cesar Alvarez stranded the bases loaded in the inning to help the Shorebirds maintain a 2-1 lead.
The RiverDogs would then put another rally together in the sixth as they tied the game on a wild pitch as Jhon Diaz scored to make it a 2-2 game.
The game would remain 2-2 through the end of regulation and the game would head to extras. Charleston would then break through for a three-run top of the eighth to grab the lead as they got run-producing hits from Jhon Diaz, Julio Meza, and Chandler Simpson to take a 5-2 lead.
Delmarva would look one roar back in the bottom of the frame as Noelberth Romero scored Luis Gonzalez on a double to put the tying runs aboard with two outs. However, Jack Hartman would produce a groundout off the bat of Trendon Craig to end the game, giving the RiverDogs a 5-3 victory in eight innings to sweep the doubleheader and secure a series victory for Charleston.
Jack Hartman (3-2) was the winning pitcher in relief for the RiverDogs with Eris Rodriguez (1-1) finishing as the losing pitcher for Delmarva.
The Shorebirds and RiverDogs will wrap up their six-game series on Sunday night as Deivy Cruz gets the start against Jack Christianson for Charleston with first pitch slated for 5:05 p.m.
