RiverDogs snap Mechanics' win streak at seven

FRASER, MI-The RiverDogs score a shorthanded goal with under three minutes to play to force a shootout and come back and defeat the Mechanics by a score of 4-3 tonight at the Great Lakes Sports City in front of 1,912 fans.

Matt Smith scored just 47 seconds into the game to give the Mechanics a 1-0 lead, however, the RiverDogs would score two straight goals in the second to take a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.

The Mechanics rebounded with two goals of their own to take a 3-2 lead. Peter Szabo and Adam Edinger tallied the goals in the third period. John DiPace tied the game with under three minutes to play to force the shootout.

In the shootout two RiverDogs beat Rod Branch while only one Mechanic was able to score. Chris Gignac was the only goal scorer for the Mechanics.

Branch made 28 saves in his 65th game in defeat for the Mechanics.

The Mechanics with the shootout loss did tie a franchise mark for points netted in one season. Last season the Mechanics tallied 81 points in their inagural season a total in which they netted after a strong finish of 18-2-0 over their final 20 games.
