RiverDogs Release '10 Schedule

August 17, 2009 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Charleston RiverDogs News Release

CHARLESTON, SC - Although there's still several weeks of baseball yet to be played, the Charleston RiverDogs have officially released their 2010 schedule which includes the yearly Opening Night spectacular and a July 4 Independence Day celebration at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

The ‘10 season will mark the 14th year of South Atlantic League (SAL) baseball at The Joe, fresh off another outstanding attendance campaign, and 17th with the RiverDogs name since changing from the Charleston Rainbows in 1994.

Two SAL Northern Division teams journey to Riley Park for an eight-game homestand to pop the cork on the ‘10 slate. Opening Night is scheduled for April 8 as a four-game series commences against the Lexington Legends, a Houston Astros affiliate. The second part of the homestand starts on April 11 by welcoming the West Virginia Power, a Pittsburgh Pirates affiliate, to Riley Park for the first time since July 2008.

Charleston does not make its first road trip until April 16, which presents an eight-game sojourn with two four-game stops against the Augusta GreenJackets, a San Francisco Giants affiliate, and the Hickory Crawdads, a Texas Rangers affiliate. The trip to Hickory's L.P. Frans Stadium is the first for the team since May 2008.

The ‘10 schedule features 11 Thursday, Friday and Saturday night games. RiverDogs fans will again become familiar with the Savannah Sand Gnats, Rome Braves and Augusta GreenJackets, as those three SAL Southern Division rivals come to the Holy City nine, 12 and 12 times, respectively, during the 70-home game campaign.

As a twist to this season's rundown, the RiverDogs play the Crawdads 14 total times and the Greenville Drive 21 times altogether, marking the most occurrences against each of those squads since the RiverDogs became a New York Yankees affiliate in 2005.

Although West Virginia, Hickory and the Greensboro Grasshoppers, a Florida Marlins affiliate, are the only Northern Division teams to frequent the Lowcountry in ‘10, the RiverDogs make two separate trips to New Jersey to battle the Lakewood BlueClaws, a Philadelphia Phillies affiliate, and also travel twice to Maryland to take on the Delmarva Shorebirds, a Baltimore Orioles affiliate, and the Hagerstown Suns, a Washington Nationals affiliate. The three-game series against Hagerstown sets the stage for the first meeting between the teams since April 2004 and first at Municipal Stadium since April 2003.

The RiverDogs finish the season at home over Labor Day weekend, as they host Greensboro for four games to close out the 2010 campaign.

The club will play at home 17 times in August-September - the most of any month - and will play 16 times in June.

Included in the slate will be eight doubleheaders with The Citadel Bulldogs, with four games scheduled over a six-day period in early April.

The RiverDogs will soon begin working on the ‘10 promotional calendar which will feature many of the time-tested promotions as well as some exciting new additions. Fans can plan on seeing the return of popular promotions including Thirsty Thursdays, Friday night fireworks, family Sundays, military appreciation nights, dog days, Saturday giveaways and live entertainment at the ballpark.

Individual game tickets will go on sale in March, while deposits for season tickets for all 70 home games and other ticket plans may be placed now by calling (843) 577-DOGS (3647) or online at www.riverdogs.com, where one can view the entire schedule.
