Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

CHARLESTON, SC - The Lakewood BlueClaws have fallen into an offensive funk over the past few weeks and do so on Monday night as they lose the road trip and series finale to the Charleston Riverdogs 4-1.

In his first start of the season Daniel Kapala (6-0) went a surprise five innings after being scheduled for four innings or 60 pitches. He allowed just two hits and one walk with two strikeouts in the win.

The Riverdogs (22-27) got out to a hot start against BlueClaws starter Heitor Correa (7-6), who has seen first-inning struggles all season long. Correa had a pair of extra base hits allowed in the inning and two runs. He settled down to work six, allowed two more unearned in the third, but took the loss. Jacob Diekman hurled two scoreless in relief.

The BlueClaws (24-24) had just five hits, three off the bat of Jeremy Hamilton, who had two doubles among those three hits. The BlueClaws scored their lone run in the eighth inning on an Anthony Gose double.

The BlueClaws finished a rain-shortened eight game road trip after six games. The BlueClaws won two against the Savannah Sand Gnats before losing three of four to the Riverdogs. This was the first road series loss of the second half.

After an off day on Tuesday the BlueClaws return home for a six-game homestand with three games against the Hagerstown Suns and then three against the Lake County Captains. The series on Wednesday begins at 7:05 pm and will feature Jesus Sanchez (8-6) for the BlueClaws and Juan Jaime (2-0) for the Suns.
