River Rats Send Three Defenseman To Carolina

ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that defensemen Casey Borer, Tim Conboy and Joey Mormina have been recalled by the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League.
Borer, 22, returns to the Hurricanes for the second time this season, having made his NHL debut with Carolina on January 2nd against the Atlanta Thrashers. The Minneapolis, Minnesota native played a total of eight games with the 'Canes in his first stint in the NHL, scoring three points (1 goal, 2 assists) and averaging 14:16 of ice time. Borer ranks third amongst Albany defensemen with 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists) and is tied for the team lead with a +11 plus/minus rating.
Conboy, 25, is also headed back to Raleigh for the second time this year, having made his NHL debut with the Hurricanes on January 12th against the Colorado Avalanche. In that game, the Farmington, Minnesota native tallied one assist and five penalty minutes. Conboy leads the River Rats in penalty minutes (189) and has three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in 49 games for Albany this season.
Mormina, 25, is preparing to make his NHL debut with the 'Canes after appearing in all but one of the River Rats 52 games so far this season. The Montreal, Quebec native is in his third year as a pro, spending his first two pro seasons with the Manchester Monarchs without getting called up to the Los Angeles Kings. Mormina has six points (2 goals, 4 assists) for Albany this season and is tied for third on the team with 70 penalty minutes.
All three players will travel to Raleigh for Carolina's 7:00 pm game tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins at the RBC Center.
Albany continues their home stand on Friday night, February 15th as they battle the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:00 pm at the Times Union Center. Saturday, February 16th the Philadelphia Phantoms are in town and the River Rats will be holding their big 15th anniversary celebration.
