Missouri River Otters News Release

The Missouri River Otters of the United Hockey League (UHL) raised nearly $10,000 on Saturday, March 1 in their Mardi Gras Jersey auction to benefit the American Heart Association.

Twenty-three (23) River Otters/American Heart Association Mardi Gras Jerseys totaled $9,575. The team utilized the live auction process again with auctioneer Glenn Head on hand. In past years, the River Otters had used silent bidding to determine the winning bids.

Tough man Marty Melnychuk's jersey turned in the highest bid with $1,000. Veteran winger Lonnie Loach's jersey garnered $550, along with goaltender Brian Regan's jersey. Center Dustin Whitecotton's jersey fetched $500. St. Louis native J.P. Beilsten's jersey and defenseman Guillaume Karrer's jersey each brought in $450 to round out the Top Five.

The River Otters, who have raised close to $70,000 through their jersey auctions over the past three and a half years with proceeds going to charity, are planning one more special jersey auction this season. It will be held on Friday, March 14, 2003 to benefit Children's Miracle Network. The jerseys will have a St. Patrick's Day theme.
