Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack IceHawks of the United Hockey League (UHL) today announced the signing of defenseman Bobby Ferraris (fuh-RAHR-iss). Ferraris will debut for the IceHawks in the club's contest versus the Fort Wayne Komets at the Glens Falls Civic Center on Wednesday night. As per club policy, terms of the agreement are not being disclosed.

Ferraris collected 18 assists among 23 points in 56 games while serving as player/assistant coach with the now-defunct New Haven Knights last season. The blueliner registered four of his five goals during the campaign against the IceHawks. Ferraris was acquired by the Knights from the Mohawk Valley Prowlers on January 15th, 2000 in exchange for defenseman Christian Bragnalo. In 31 games following the trade that season, the native of Falmouth, Massachusetts was +19 with New Haven. Ferraris led Mohawks Valley defensemen in scoring with 32 points (4g, 28a) during the 1999-2000 season.

Ferraris received a one-game recall to the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League (AHL) during the 2000-01 season. The defenseman also participated in preseason training camp with the Detroit Vipers of the International Hockey League (IHL) in September of 2000. Prior to beginning his professional career, the defenseman played four seasons at Saint Anselm College (ECAC East) in New Hampshire.

"Bobby is a very intelligent and solid player," said IceHawks President/General Manager Art Shaver. "His experience as well as his ability will definitely benefit us on the blue line."

Ferraris currently serves as head coach of the Connecticut Junior Wolves of the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League (MJHL). His coaching commitment will cause the defenseman to miss some IceHawks' game until the Wolves' playoff season ends.

Wednesday's game versus Fort Wayne will mark the IceHawks' first home contest since February 19th. The ‘Hawks trail the first-place Komets by five points in the Eastern Conference standings. Game time on Wednesday is 7:00 p.m.
