Missouri River Otters News Release
A dramatic last-minute goal by Jamal Mayers helped the River Otters deal the Kansas City Outlaws a 3-2 shootout loss Wednesday night in front of 3,478 fans at the Family Arena.
The first goal of the game came on a River Otters power-play. Ryan Johnson and Frank Littlejohn played a perfect give-and-go, and Johnson finished the sequence by snapping a low wrister behind Maxime Gingras. It stayed 1-0 until late in the first period when the Outlaws got a power-play goal of their own. Jason Ruff took a terrific Mathieu Descoteaux pass and beat Jason Tapp with a low shot for his 24th goal of the season.
The only goal in the second period came on a Kansas City power-play. Ruslan Borysenko flung a puck at the net, and the rebound was jammed home by Derek Kern. Kansas City out-shot Missouri 16-7 in the second period.
The Outlaws kept their lead until the final minute of play. After numerous tremendous saves by Gingras, Jamal Mayers finally picked up a rebound in front of the net and rammed the puck behind the Kansas City goaltender. In the shootout, Littlejohn, Barrie Moore, Mark Odut, and Mike Dombkiewicz scored for Missouri, while only Mathieu Descoteaux, Joe Seroski, and Andrei Lupandin could score for Kansas City. Dombkiewicz's shoot-out goal was the one that gave his squad the victory. Tapp made 23 saves for his 21st win of the season, while Gingras made 27 saves in the loss.
The River Otters play the Mallards Friday night at the MARK. The puck drops at 7:00 PM CST, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 and the B2 webcast at www.riverotters.com.
