
Hogs to hold first ever school day game

Rockford, Ill.- This Thursday, March 24, the Rockford IceHogs will host their first ever School Day Game with the Rockford Public School District when the IceHogs host the Quad City Mallards. The game will begin at 11:05 a.m. and is sponsored by McDonalds, Cadbury Adams, The YMCA of the Rock River Valley and the Rockford Park District.
Students will be treated to an IceHogs game and also a unique, educational experience. The local six graders will be enlightened by guest speakers including IceHogs forward Jason Ralph, General Manager Ryan Washatka, Head Coach Steve Martinson, Anne Samons from Swedish American Hospital, UHL Commissioner Richard Brosal, MetroCentre General Manager Corey Pearson and members from the Rockford Police Department.
The speakers will be speaking about staying off drugs, staying in school, setting goals and exercising and eating properly. The students will also learn how the ice is installed at the MetroCentre and how the Zamboni resurfaces the ice.
The kids will receive an educational workbook linking the game of hockey with a variety of educational activities. The students will have an opportunity to learn the basics of hockey and the history of the Rockford IceHogs.
Need a reason to skip out of work and take a long lunch? If you present your business card at the MetroCentre Box Office, you will receive a $4 discount for a lower level or upper level ticket to this special matinee game. IceHogs games are usually 2 to 2 1/2 hours long so you could be back at work by 1:30 p.m. The game marks the final visit from the Mallards this season.

Also, the IceHogs office will be closed on Thursday, March 24 from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. and on Friday, March 25 in observance of the Easter holiday. The office will reopen however, on Monday March 28 at 8:30 a.m.
