Generals Drop one against Motor City, 4-1

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League ran into a defensive buzz saw as the Motor City Mechanics defeated the Generals 4-1 in front of 3,523 at Perani's Arena on Wednesday night.

Flint opened the scoring on an outstanding goal by rookie Mike Kinnie (35) who took a pass from Bobby Reynolds and sent a shot up high past Mechanics' net minder Rod Branch for the 1-0 lead. Flint had chances to increase their lead but could not capitalize on Motor City miscues in their own zone.

It would stay 1-0 until Motor City tied it and eventually took the lead for good in the second period on goals by center Joe Burton (27) at 9:38 and the game winning goal by defenseman Darien Hatcher (4) on a screen shot at 11:31 while with the man advantage to take a 2-1 lead into the third period.

Motor City scored two unanswered goals in the final stanza to wrap up the victory on goals by left wing David Ambler (4) at 16:40 and an empty net goal by right wing Matt Hunter (11) at 19:44.

Flint goaltender Nathan Grobins was solid between the pipes stopping 35 of 38 shots. The Generals (31-29-11, 73 pts.) are still in eighth place in the overall standings trailing Quad City for the final playoff spot. Motor City (26-36-7, 59 pts.) is still in fifth place in the Central Division and twelfth place overall in the league standings.
