Missouri River Otters News Release
St. Charles, MO --- The Missouri River Otters of the United Hockey League are proud to announce that NHL veteran winger Scott Mellanby will be serving as the team's assistant coach for the first part of the season.
Mellanby, 38, recently signed with the Atlanta Thrashers after spending the last three years with the St. Louis Blues. During his 19-year NHL career he has scored 340 goals, added 430 assists, and racked up 2361 penalty minutes in 1291 games.
"I'm thrilled to be helping out the River Otters organization," said Mellanby, who was selected in the 2nd round of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers. "I'll be here to give the guys advice and point out some key things they can work on. I'll be another set of eyes and ears that the guys can use as a sounding board."
Mellanby is very excited to get his first experience of how professional hockey looks from the coach's view.
"It should be really useful for me to be able to see things from a different perspective. I may want to go into coaching some day, and this should be a great experience."
The River Otters next game is Friday, October 22 against the Rockford Icehogs at the Metrocentre. The game starts at 7:05 and can be heard on ESPN 1380-AM. The Otters home opener is Saturday, October 23 against Quad City, and all the action for that game can be heard on KSLQ-FM 104.5.
