Dumont scores twice to lead fifth straight win

Louis Dumont scored twice to lead the Mississippi RiverKings over the Texas Brahmas tonight 6-3 at the DeSoto Civic Center.

The RiverKings (17-6-1) have won five straight and will host the Brahmas (13-8-1) again tomorrow night at 7:05.

Dumont opened the game with a shorthanded goal at 6:28 of the first period to give the RiverKings an early lead. But the RiverKings scored another shorthanded goal on the same penalty kill. Aaron Davis drilled home his 13th of the season at 7:07 to make it 2-0.

After their power play ended, though, the Brahmas got one back. Tyler Skworchinski netted his fifth of the season at 7:53 to make it a 2-1 game.

The RiverKings next scored the prettiest goal of the night. Steve Slonina and Ryan Campbell worked a 2-on-1 to perfection, making four passes on the Brahmas' half of center with Slonina finally burying his fourth goal of the season at 14:05 to restore the RiverKings' two-goal lead. However, Eric Main potted his first goal of the season with 2:37 remaining in the first to make it 3-2.

No one would score again until the beginning of the third period, when Dumont registered his fifth of the season at 1:36. Rick Kozak got into the act on the power play at 5:00 by sliding home his 14th of the goal. At 5-2, Brahmas goalie David Cacciola exited in favor of backup Jim Healey.

The Brahmas seemed to get a lift from the goalie change. Justin Kinnunen scored his fifth goal of the season at 7:07 on the power play to make it a game once again at 5-3. Nevertheless, the RiverKings salted the game away with Derek Landmesser's fourth goal of the season on the power play with 5:24 remaining.

Sebastien Centomo finished with 29 saves on the night for the RiverKings. Cacciola made 19 stops for the Brahmas and Healey made seven.

The RiverKings went two for 11 on the power play. The Brahmas converted just once in five opportunities.
