December 21, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[ BROOMFIELD, Col.]-Behind three power play goals, Rocky Mountain beat the Scorpions 4-2. The win was the first for the Rage over the Scorps this season.
Like the first two meetings between the two teams this season, the Scorpions got on the board first. Erik Johnson scored his first goal in a New Mexico uniform when he banked the shot off goaltender Scott Reid and into the net.
Tempers flared in the first period after the Scorps scored their goal. The teams dropped the gloves on two separate occasions. Scott Wray fought Craig Macdonald in the second match and this turned out to be a break for New Mexico . Wray did not have his jersey tied down and was assessed an automatic game misconduct.
The power play advantage turned to the Rage in the second period. Simon Watson scored twice with the man advantage giving his team the one goal lead after 40 minutes.
New Mexico came back and tied the game with a power play goal of their own. Vladimir Hartinger delivered a perfect pass to Konrad Reeder who lifted it over Reid's shoulder at the 9:54 mark.
Back to the power play went the Rage and again they make the Scorpions pay. Tyler Butler scored his ninth goal of the season at the 10:38 mark. Daymen Rycroft added a late empty net goal to seal the Rock Mountain victory.
On Saturday, the Scorps will face-off against the Eagles at 7:05 p.m. with the game being broadcast on 610 The Sports Animal. The game can be seen live on the Altitude Network and CHL Network.
After a brief road trip, the Scorpions will end the 2007 calendar year with games against Amarillo December 28th and 29th at the Santa Ana Star Center. On the 28th Thunderstix will be given to the fans courtesy of Santa Ana Star Casino. The following night Chick-Fil-A will help the fever by giving away cowbells.
