SCHAUMBURG, IL - Braxton Martinez drove home six runs for the River City Rascals in a 9-3 win over the Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, in the second of a four-game series on Tuesday night.
River City opened the scoring with a single run in the top of the second. The Boomers grabbed a brief 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning. Quincy Nieporte walked and scored on a double to deep center off the bat of Matt Rose. Nick Oddo singled home Rose moments later. Martinez hit a grand slam in the top of the third to put the Rascals ahead for good and added a two-run single in a four-run fourth.
Matt Miller took the loss for the Boomers, allowing all nine runs in 3.1 innings. Jumpei Akanuma threw 3.2 scoreless innings of relief and Trevin Eubanks, signed before the game, struck out three in two scoreless innings to close the contest. Eubanks was making his professional debut. The Boomers finished with 10 hits in the loss. Jack Parenty tallied three at the top of the lineup while Rose and Dylan Jones posted two apiece.
