Sacramento River Cats News Release
West Sacramento, Calif. - Grant Green and Adam Rosales drove in three runs each en route to a 9-4 win over the Iowa Cubs on Tuesday afternoon at Raley Field.
Bruce Billings (3-1) got the start for the River Cats and tossed six innings, allowing two runs on three hits, while striking out six Iowa batters, earning his third win of the season. For the I-Cubs, Randy Wells (2-2) threw five innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits, while walking three and fanning six batters.
Iowa's Anthony Rizzo hit his 13th home run of the year in the first inning, giving the Cubs an early 2-0 lead. Sacramento answered back in the bottom of the first with two runs to tie it at 2-2.
The River Cats put up a four spot in the bottom of the fourth inning, with a pair of runs coming off the bat of Rosales' two-RBI single to left field. Green contributed an RBI single and Jeff Fiorentino drove in Jermaine Mitchell on a groundout to first base to make the score 6-2.
Sacramento scored one run in the bottom of the fifth and two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 9-2 lead into the eighth inning. Iowa narrowed the deficit to five runs when Alfredo Amezaga hit a two-run shot to right field in the top of the eighth inning, but that would be as close as the Cubs would get. Neil Wagner shut down Iowa in the top of the ninth with a 1-2-3 inning to end the game.
With two hits and three RBIs on the day, Green led the River Cats offense, while Rizzo had a three-hit day, knocking in two runs for the I-Cubs.
After an off day Wednesday, the Sacramento River Cats will go on an eight-game road trip, beginning with the Albuquerque Isotopes (May 17-20), followed by a four-game series against the Round Rock Express (May 21-24). The River Cats will return home on Friday, May 25 to play the Reno Aces, with Manny Ramirez expected to make his Raley Field debut that night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
