Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. -- The Rainiers struggled early and never recovered in an 11-3 defeat to the Round Rock Express at Cheney Stadium on Tuesday.
The loss foiled the Rainiers hopes of a series sweep of the Express and halted the club's season-high winning streak at four games.
Tacoma trailed 3-0 early after surrendering a trio of runs over the game's first three frames. Infielder Yangervis Solarte plated a run in the first inning with a sacrifice fly, and shortstop Luis Hernandez scored two more with a double in the top of the third.
Outfielder Trayvon Robinson brought the Rainiers within one after belting a two-run home in the bottom of the inning, but the Express exploded with eight runs on nine hits over the next three frames to seal the Rainiers first loss of the series.
Tacoma combined to collect 10 hits in the finale between the two clubs. Infielder Luis Rodriguez turned in the Rainiers only multi-hit game, hitting two singles to extend his season-high hitting streak to 12 games.
Designated hitter Luis Jimenez led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a single and has now hit safely in each of his last 14 games, the longest hitting streak strung together by a Rainiers player this season.
Starter Forrest Snow (0-4) was dealt the loss after surrendering seven runs - six earned - on seven hits over 4.0 innings, while walking three and striking out four.
The Rainiers (15-24) have a scheduled league off day tomorrow before opening an eight-game road trip at Omaha on Thursday, May 17. Right-hander Erasmo Ramirez (1-0, 2.25) is scheduled to start for the Rainiers in the first game of the four-game series against left-hander Will Smith (1-2, 4.30) for the Storm Chasers. First pitch is scheduled for 4:35 p.m. PT.
