Sacramento River Cats News Release
RENO, Nev. - Bruce Billings held the Reno Aces to two runs in six innings, but the River Cats fell to the Aces 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Aces Ballpark in walk-off fashion.
Neither team was able to score through the first three innings until Reno put itself on the board with two run-scoring doubles in the fourth. The River Cats scored once in the seventh, cutting the lead in half, then Grant Green came through in the clutch, tying the game at two in the eighth with a two-out, stand-up triple. The Aces had a rally of their own, however, as Adam Eaton collected a walk-off, RBI-single in the bottom of the ninth, giving Reno the 3-2 victory.
Billings gave up two runs in six innings with five hits, two walks and five strikeouts for the no-decision. Pedro Figueroa suffered the loss, giving up the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
Aces starter Tyler Skaggs took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, but received a no-decision, striking out 10 in seven, one-run innings. Reliever Jensen Lewis picked up his third win with a perfect ninth.
Daric Barton paced the River Cats offense, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Five other River Cats collected one hit apiece.
The River Cats and Aces return to Aces Ballpark at 7:05 p.m. on Monday evening. RHP Brandon McCarthy (0-0, No ERA) will make a rehab start with River Cats, facing Aces righty Charles Brewer (6-6, 5.61 ERA).
The River Cats return to Raley Field on Wednesday, August 1 at 7:05 p.m. to open an eight-game homestand against the Memphis Redbirds and Nashville Sounds, which will kick off Tennessee Week presented by Jack Daniel's.
