Iowa Cubs News Release

New Orleans, LA - The Chicago Cubs have signed OF Jeff Frazier to a minor league contract and assigned him to the Iowa Cubs.

Frazier, 29, began the season with Reynosa in the Mexican League and hit .273 with three homers and 14 RBI in 34 games. He also played in 23 games with triple-A Toledo from May 3 through June 16 this year and hit .190 with a homer and five RBI before getting released. It was his third stint with the Detroit Tigers' organization. The Tigers drafted Frazier in the third round of the 2004 draft out of Rutgers University and Baseball America rated him as the Tigers' seventh-best prospect in 2005. In 2007, the Tigers traded him to Seattle for RH Yorman Bazardo, but the Mariners traded him back to the Tigers in 2008. Frazier made his Major League debut with the Tigers in 2010 and was 5-for-23 (.217) in nine games. Last year, Frazier played at triple-A Syracuse in the Washington Nationals organization and batted .226 with 10 homers and 46 RBI in 118 games. Frazier hails from Toms River, NJ and was part of the city's Little League World Series team in 1995. His younger brother, Todd, plays for the Cincinnati Reds.

The Cubs have also placed IF Blake DeWitt and RH Rafael Dolis on the disabled list. Both players have left the I-Cubs to receive treatment and rehab at the Cubs' complex in Mesa, AZ. DeWitt has a lower back strain and Dolis has a sore left knee.

The Cubs wrap play game two of a four-game series in New Orleans tonight at 6:00 pm. RH Rodrigo Lopez (2-5, 5.53) will start for the Cubs against LH Brad Hand (8-5, 3.76) for the Zephyrs. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 5:40.
