Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Oklahoma City, OK - Wil Myers drove in three runs and Derrick Robinson scored three times in support of Jake Odorizzi, who was solid through 5 2/3 innings, as Omaha crushed Oklahoma City, 11-1, Sunday evening in the second of four meetings at Bricktown Ballpark. The Storm Chasers pounded out 15 hits to end a three-game slide and improve to 64-45 on the season and 6-4 on their 12-game road trip.
The Storm Chasers, who had been held to three runs over their last three games, erupted for four runs on five hits in the third inning against former Kansas City farmhand Brian Bass. Derrick Robinson opened the frame with a double and scored on a two-base hit by Irving Falu, who advanced to third on a fly ball out and scored to make it 2-0 on a Myers single to center field. Clint Robinson then connected on a base hit before a ground-rule double by Tony Abreu brought Myers home and advanced Clint Robinson to third, from where he scored on a David Lough sacrifice fly.
Myers came through with a two-out, two-run single in the fourth that pushed the visitors advantage to 6-0 before they knocked Bass out of the contest and blew it wide open with five more runs in the fifth. Derrick Robinson walked to force in a run, Falu singled in a run and Johnny Giavotella drove home a pair with a base hit to cap the rally. Bass was tagged with the loss after he gave up nine runs on 11 hits while walking two and striking out two in four-plus innings of work.
OKC finally got on the board in the sixth, stringing together three straight two-out singles, the last by Angel Sanchez driving in Matt Dominguez. After a walk to Chris Wallace loaded the bases, Odorizzi was lifted in favor of Francisley Bueno, who struck out J.B. Shuck to end the threat. The 22-year-old right-hander grabbed his eighth Triple-A win after allowing a run on seven hits while walking three and fanning five.
Bueno tossed a scoreless 1 1/3 innings before turning the game over to Blaine Hardy and Roman Colon, who each completed a shutout frame to help end Omaha's five-game losing streak to the RedHawks, who fell into second place in the American Conference Southern Division.
The series continues Monday night with Omaha right-hander Nate Adcock taking the mound against OKC southpaw Brett Oberholtzer. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:45 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone Two, The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
