Sacramento River Cats News Release
West Sacramento, Calif. -- Top Oakland A's prospect Daric Barton and 2005 River Cats MVP and Triple-A All-Star Game hero Matt Watson highlight the River Cats 2006 opening day roster. Sacramento opens up their 2006 season on Thursday night, April 6th against the Portland Beavers at PGE Park in Portland (game time is 7:05 P.M.). Chad Gaudin, acquired by Oakland from the Toronto organization in an off-season trade, will get the starting nod in Thursday's opener.
Watson is one of eleven (11) returning players on the current roster and will join Charles Thomas and Doug Clark (formerly with the San Francisco Giants organization) in the Cats outfield.
Along with Barton, the Sacramento infield will consist of Triple-A veteran third baseman Scott McClain, Cats 2005 starting shortstop Mike Rouse and Keith Ginter, who spent most of last season with Oakland.
Jeremy Brown and John Baker will share catching duties.
Along with Gaudin, the team's starting rotation will feature RHP Juan Dominguez (recently acquired from the Texas Rangers), top organizational prospect Shane Komine, Dan Meyer and Randy Keisler.
The bullpen will be anchored by closer Santiago Casilla (formerly pitched under the name Jairo Garcia), 2005 Triple-A All-Star Victor Moreno and Jason Karnuth, who represented Toledo for the International League in last year's Triple-A All-Star Game at Raley Field. Ron Flores and Chris Mabeus also return for the River Cats bullpen.
The team returns home on Friday, April 14th to face off against the Las Vegas 51s in the 2006 Raley Field opener. Game time for the home opener is 7:05 P.M. (gates open at 5:30 P.M.) and limited seats still remain.
