Round Rock Express News Release

(NEW ORLEANS, LA) - It only took six years and three hours and thirty six minutes, but for the first time in Round Rock Express history, the E-Train won its opening day game, by a 5-4 final over New Orleans.

In a game with historical merit, the first outdoor sports event since Hurricane Katrina, the Express and Zephyrs traded RBI infield singles and the game was tied at a run apiece after four innings.

The Express picked up a run and a 2-1 lead on an RBI single by CF Mike Rodriguez that scored Charlton Jimerson who had walked and was wild pitched to second base, as the Express took a short-lived lead.

New Orleans took over the lead, scoring two runs in the fifth inning on some sloppy defensive play, to make the score 3-2.

Then in the top of the eighth inning, LF Luke Scott launched a 390 foot blast over the left center wall to tie the score at three. The Zephyrs came back to score the go-ahead run on an infield error to make the score 4-3.

In the top of the ninth inning, Round Rock took advantage of an error and a bases loaded walk to put up two runs and take a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning.

Former major leaguer Dave Borkowski came out of the Express bullpen in the bottom of the ninth to retire three straight including two strikeouts and the Express hung on to win the game 5-4.

Roberto Giron picked up the win in relief with Borkowski notching the save.

The two teams will meet for the second game of the four game series Friday night at 7:00 PM. Lefthander Carlos Hernandez will make his first start of the 2006 season for the Express and will be opposed by right-hander Kyle Denney.
