Peoria Chiefs News Release
Peoria, IL - After the Chiefs earned a convincing win Tuesday, the Quad Cities River Bandits returned the favor Wednesday with a 9-0 win to even the series.
A wire-to-wire win tonight, Quad Cities took a 3-0 lead after one frame courtesy of RBI hits from Luca Tresh and Kale Emshoff. A sac fly from Herard Gonzalez finished off the scoring in the inning.
In the second, two more runs crossed the plate on a pair of back-to-back knocks from Diego Hernandez and Tyler Gentry that made it a 5-0 River Bandits edge. Peoria starter Dionys Rodriguez was bounced after just a pair of innings and was responsible for all five runs. The River Bandits added an additional run off the Peoria bullpen in the third inning to stretch their lead to 6-0.
The score remained the same through the middle innings, but in the seventh, Quad Cities re-established their offense. Once more, consecutive RBI hits off the bats of Morgan McCullough and Tyler Tolbert added some additional insurance and made it an 8-0 contest.
A ninth inning tally on a fielder's choice RBI ended the scoring for the night, as the River Bandits earned their 20th win of the season in a 9-0 effort. The Chiefs were held to just five hits in the contest. Francisco Hernandez was the bright spot for Peoria. His seventh inning double extended his on-base streak to 10 games.
Peoria dropped to 22-31 with the loss and will hope to rebound in game three tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 from Dozer Park. Austin Love will toe the slab for Peoria, while Quad Cities gives the baseball to Eric Cerantola.
