London Rippers News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN - A strong effort came up short, as the London Rippers lost their exhibition game to the Traverse City Beach Bums 5-4.

After the Beach Bums put up two runs in the bottom of the first on singles by Jose Vargas and Chase Burch, the Rippers bounced right back in the top of the second.

Singles by Zach Larson, Matt Wright and Stephen Cardullo Jr. loaded the bases and Mitch Delaney brought home two with a double down the right field line. Cardullo Jr. scored the Rippers third run of the inning on a groundout by Josh Federico.

A home run by Traverse City's Sean Gusrang tied the game a 3-3 in the bottom of the second, but the Rippers showed off some power of their own in the fourth.

Cardullo Jr. broke the tie by crushing a lead-off homer to left, giving the Rippers their first lead of the game, at 4-3.

London kept that lead until the bottom of the 7th, when the Beach Bums put up two runs on two hits and a walk, off Rippers' pitcher, David Triplet, grabbing a 5-4 advantage - which they would not relinquish.

In all, the Rippers offense pounded out 12 hits, including three from Justino Cuevas and two each from Mark Samuelson and Cardullo Jr.

On the mound, starter, David Francis gave up three runs, one earned, and two hits over his two innings of work.

The bullpen was spectacular. Yohan Gonzalez pitched two solid innings, giving up one hit and striking out one. Sheng-An Kuo only gave up one walk in his two innings of work, with one strikeout. Andrew Chilcoat struck out one and gave up one hit in his only inning.

The London Rippers start their first season in the Frontier League on May 18th in Southern Illinois, before opening their home schedule on May 25th, when they host the Gateway Grizzlies.
