LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks rallied for a pair of unearned runs in extra innings and beat the Schaumburg Boomers, 5-4, on Saturday at RiverHawks Stadium.
Brandon Anderson and Daniel Gonzalez were each 2-for-5 for the RiverHawks in the 11-inning game. Pat Biserta and Cody McMorris each had two hits for the Boomers.
Anderson evened the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh when he scored on a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the 10th inning, the RiverHawks scored twice on a two-error play to take the lead. Jeremy Richter led off with a single to center field off Jason Braun. Anderson singled Richter to second base. Gonzalez followed with a grounder to Schaumburg first baseman Brandon Hairston. Hairston tossed to Braun covering at first base, but Braun dropped the ball. Richter scored on the first miscue. Braun fired wide of third base in an attempt to get Anderson for a second error and second run on the play.
Schaumburg rallied in the 11th inning for an unearned run off winning pitcher Mike Lee on an error, a Cody McMorris steal and a Sean Mahley infield hit.
The RiverHawks finish the exhibition schedule at 1 p.m. Sunday at Schaumburg.
Rockford opens the regular season at 7:05 p.m. Friday, May 18 at River City. The RiverHawks' home opener is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Friday, May 25 against Lake Erie. The Power Connection sponsors a postgame fireworks extravaganza.
