Essay Award Winners Announced; Grizzlies Home Opener Nears

The Gateway Grizzlies are proud to announce the winners of the "My Mom Rocks My Baseball Socks" Mother's Day essay contest. Over 80 entries were submitted, and in the end there was a tie. The winners are 12-year-old Alyssa Piearce, and 13-year-old Zach Sullivan. Each kid will get a chance to read their winning essay live on air with broadcaster Adam Young during Opening Weekend on the Grizzlies Radio Network (590 AM KFNS and 1400 AM KJFF). Zach will read his on May 19th and Alyssa will read hers' on the 20th.
The Grizzlies will open 2012 season play on May 18th as the club welcomes the reigning Frontier League champion Joliet Slammers to GCS Ballpark.

She's a nurse. She's a superhero. She's brave, courageous, and amazing. She's my soldier. She's also my maid, chauffer, and chef. Above all this, she's my mom. She's the bestest friend I could ever want or ask for, and I love her with all my heart. Happy Mother's Day!
"My Mom Rocks" by Zach Sullivan
My Mom is the best, but sometimes she needs a rest. She dusts the house, cleans the dishes, vacuums the house, makes dinner, tucks me in bed at night; oh and did I forget she cleans my socks (that really rocks) and washes my underwear. My mom is that warm, peaceful feeling that calms you down when you feel sick, sad, mad, and frustrated or you just need a hug! My mom is the best, but like I said, she needs a rest; she is one of a kind! She is the BEST!!
