Ripknees erase big deficit in ninth straight victory

St. Paul, MN. The ABA Minnesota Ripknees continued to solidify their status as an elite team in the league by defeating the #6 ranked Quad City Riverhawks 92-79 on Wednesday evening at the Gangelhoff Center after trailing by as many as ten points late in the third quarter. The Border Battle pitted the two top teams in the Central Division with the Ripknees improving their record to 11-2 while Quad City fell to 10-5.

The Ripknees were led by former Minneapolis standout Tyrell Sledge, who had 21 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and four steals. Former Minneapolis Henry and Oklahoma University forward Johnnie Gilbert added 19 points off the bench along with six rebounds (five offensive) while shooting 7-8 from the field and dishing out three assists. Three other Ripknees reached double-figures as former University of Minneosta guards Mitch Ohnstad and Maurice Hargrow each scored 11 and former Winona State center Travis Leech added 10.

With the win, Minnesota continues their home unbeaten streak at the Gangelhoff Center where they are 5-0 on the season with nearly a 13 point average margin of victory.
