Aeros hang on down the stretch to defeat Mississippi

SPRINGDALE, Ark. - The Arkansas Aeros hung on down the stretch Thursday night to down the Mississippi Miracles 120-115 at the All-Star Sports Arena in Springdale.

The Aeros (15-2), the No. 1 team in the American Basketball Association Power Rankings, had four players with at least 24 points.

Todd Day and Daryan Selvy led the Aeros charge with 30 points apiece.

"They're a good team, and we are very fortunate to beat them," said Aeros coach Bob Hoffman. "They hit all kinds of shots on us. The fabric of this team is we have winners. We found a way to win tonight."

Mississippi trailed 111-109 with 1:06 left. Selvy scored on a putback and Day added one of two free throws to give the Aeros a 114-109 advantage with: 28 remaining. A Detrick White 3-pointer trimmed the Arkansas lead to 117-113 at :07 before Selvy hit a free throw and Day a lay-up to close the scoring.

After Selvy and Day's 30, the Aeros got 27 points from Curtis Haywood and 24 more from Jarred Merrill.

Tyrone Davis led Mississippi (4-7) with 30 points.

The Miracles had won three in a row coming into the contest under new head coach Sam Smith, a former assistant for the Arkansas RiverCatz.

Up next for the Aeros is a 7:05 p.m. meeting Saturday at the All-Star Sports Arena in Springdale with the Houston Undertakers.
