Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
EDINBURG- Luis Chirinos shut out the Edinburg Roadrunners for seven innings and Leivi Ventura hit a solo home run in the fifth inning to lead the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings to a 4-0 victory at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The victory puts the WhiteWings (30-20) just a half game behind the Roadrunners (31-20) and allowed Rio Grande Valley to take two of the three games of this series. The two teams meet again for the first game of a two game series at Harlingen Field Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m.
Chirinos (7-2) now leads the NABL in victories after scattering six hits, walking three, and fanning five.
The WhiteWings were aided by five Edinburg errors that led to three unearned runs and made a loser out of Miguel Martinez (6-3), who gave up eight hits, walked six, and struck out three in defeat.
Ventura's home run was his third in 22 games since rejoining Rio Grande Valley last month. Ruddy Yan also collected three hits, scored one run, and drove in another while stealing his team-leading tenth base of the season, and Wander Perez threw two scoreless innings to close out the WhiteWings' victory.
