
Defense Falters as Roadrunners Fall to 'Wings

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners committed five errors as they fell to the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 4-0 Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The WhiteWings (30-20) took advantage of an error in the top of the first. Ruddy Yan started the game with a single and then moved to third after a stolen base and a throwing error. Leugim Barroso then hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Yan to score making it 1-0.
RGV added a run in the top of the fourth with an RBI single by Yan that allowed Fidel Hernandez to score pushing their lead to 2-0.
Leivi Ventura hit his third home run of the season in the top of the fifth extending the WhiteWings lead 3-0.
A throwing error in the top of the seventh allowed Romulo Ruiz to score from third that made the score 4-0.
Luis Chirinos (7-4) picked up the win after pitching seven scoreless innings and scattering six hits with five strikeouts.
Edinburg (31-20) starter Miguel Martinez (6-3) lasted six and two-third innings and allowed four runs, one of which was earned while taking the loss.
Wander Perez pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth innings giving the WhiteWings the 4-0 victory.
The Roadrunners and WhiteWings have Tuesday off before resuming their series in Harlingen on Wednesday night at Harlingen Field.
