Cats Go Down in Back and Forth Sloppy Affair

July 16, 2012 - North American League (NAmL)
Fort Worth Cats News Release

The Fort Worth Cats and San Angelo Colts combined for seven errors in a game that had seven lead changes. Back-to-back RBI hits by San Angelo in the eighth inning sealed the Cats' fate as they fell 8-6 at Foster Field.

Four errors were committed in the third inning in which seven players crossed the plate. In the top half of the inning, two fielding miscues in a row by Colts' shortstop Ryan Hutson caused both Kenny Gilbert and Rose Ruiz to score, giving the Cats an early 3-1 lead. Errors by both Kenny Gilbert and Jon Dziomba would make the lead short lived in the bottom of the third inning as San Angelo would answer right back with five runs of their own.

CJ Beatty did his best to jumpstart the offense in the leadoff spot for the Fort Worth Cats, reaching base four times in just five at bats.

The San Angelo Colts' J.J. Sherrill, Crosland and Landon Camp combined for eight hits and five RBIs.

Cats' infielder Brandon Jones hit his league-leading 10th home run in the fifth inning to tie the game at 6. The game would remain deadlocked until the eighth inning.

Mace Thurman was charged with his third loss of the year. He pitched in the eighth following two scoreless innings by Brandon Wilkerson. Thurman allowed the final two runs despite striking out two.

With the loss, the Cats now sit in third place and trail first-place Edinburg by two games.

San Angelo and Fort Worth will square off again in San Angelo Tuesday night to continue their six-game home and home series. First pitch is at 7:05 as Blake Nation takes the mound for the Cats.
