Arkansas RimRockers News Release

Little Rock, Arkansas -The Arkansas RimRockers overcame a slow first half to defeat the Fort Worth Flyers 110-96. The victory moved the RimRockers to 9-4 on the season and placed them solidly in second place. Arkansas was led in scoring by Myron Allen's 22 point effort and five other RimRockers finished in double digits to boost the RimRockers over the Flyers.

The RimRockers took advantage of the Flyers' zone defense, scoring 66 points in the paint, but were deterred by turnovers, blocked shots, and steals in the second quarter. The RimRockers shot a low 41.2 percent in the second quarter while the Flyers were a little warmer at 45 percent from the field. The Flyers headed into the halftime break leading 46-40.

"I believe there was a point in the first half where you could see the critical point," Head Coach Joe Harge said. "We've lost games in the past at that point where we cave in. I told them at half time if they didn't rebound and stay together, we would lose the game."

The RimRockers fought off the cold shooting from the first half and came back hot for the remainder of the game. The pace was set by Pape Sow, who finished with 21 points, nine of which were tagged in the third quarter. The RimRockers out scored the Flyers 33-17 in the third quarter, due largely in part to the Flyers' 10 turnovers. The race to reach the century mark was won by Arkansas late in the forth quarter and the RimRockers never looked back.

"I'm excited about the way we came out and played. We did settle for a lot of easy shots in the zone, but we had to go with what works and that worked for us tonight," Harge said.

The Flyers, now 8-5 on the season, were led by Ime Udoka's 21 points and 6 boards each by Brandon Robinson and Deji Akindele. The loss marks the third in a row to the RimRockers and the fewest points scored against their scrappy opponent. The RimRockers will face the Flyers again in late January, but travel to Tulsa tomorrow to take on the 66ers. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
