
Fayetteville signs former Wildcat Hawkins

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Hawkins, 6-1, 187, played professionally in France for Stade Clermontois and in the CBA for the Yakima Sun Kings last season, where he finished among league leaders with 6.1 assists per game. In 27 games (11 starts) for Yakima, he averaged 12.0 points and 3.6 rebounds.
Hawkins played collegiately at the Universityof Kentucky, where he played in 126 games, averaging 6.6 points, 1.8 rebounds,3.7 assists and 1.6 steals. He spent his high school career at the prestigious Oak Hill Academyin Virginia, leading the Warriors to a 32-0 record and a No. 1 national rankingin his junior season. In his senior year, Oak Hill finished at 30-2 as Hawkins averaged 10.1 points and 12.5 assists per game.
Hawkins played in all but one game during his freshman season at Kentucky, and started 29 games his sophomore year, leading the team in assists. He moved to a sixth-man role for his junior season, but still led the Wildcats in assists. He started all 32 games as a senior, as Kentucky won the 2004 Southeast Conference Tournament. Hawkins averaged 10.3 points per game and led the team in assists and steals. He finished his career seventh on Kentucky's all-time assists list and third on the all-time steals list.
Hurt played in 11 games (10 starts) for Fayetteville, averaging 31.5 minutes, 8.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists.
Hawkins will wear uniform No. 6 for the Patriots, who are 2-9 and have lost seven straight.
