Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release

Lethbridge, AB - It has been a year of firsts and milestones for Lethbridge Hurricanes Goalie Ty Rimmer and Sunday night he entered the record book.

With his 35th save against Kootenay at the 4:01 mark of the 3rd period, Ty Rimmer set the Single Season Saves record for Lethbridge with 1,838. The previous record of 1,837 had been held by Jeff Ferguson who set it in the 1987-88 season, a record that stood for 24 years. Rimmer finished the game with 48 saves on 49 shots in a 2-0 loss to the Ice.

The 20-year old from Edmonton, AB already set the mark as the first CHL goalie to 500, 1000 and 1500 saves. Entering Sunday's game he started in 55 of the Canes 61 games posting a 3.02 GAA and a .915 save percentage. Hurricanes Assistant Coach/Goalie Coach Chris Chisamore says this has been a "season unlike any other with him (Rimmer) playing this much and the team having a goalie that plays so much, but he gets his rest and stays sharp." Chisamore added "he's one of, if not the best goalie in the WHL who's been everything we knew he would be."

In acquiring Rimmer from the Tri-City Americans at the 2012 Bantam Draft, he was coming off his best season statistically where he led the league with a .922 save percentage and a 2.43 GAA. Rimmer also recorded a WHL best 5 shutouts in 46 games finishing the season with a record of 31-12-1-1. Rimmer was also named to the First All-Star Team in the West Conference and he was the West Conference nominee for the WHL's Goaltender of the Year.
