Red Deer Rebels News Release

A fantastic night at the Enmax Centrium on and off the ice... a wonderful celebration of Red Deer junior hockey history on Rustlers Heritage Night. Dozens of Rustlers alumni were on-hand to watch the Rebels, wearing replica jerseys honouring the 1980 Centennial Cup Champion Rustlers team, take on the Prince Albert Raiders. The game was a big one as the Rebels and Raiders came into it tied for 4th place in the WHL Eastern Conference, each with 72 points.

FIRST PERIOD

After a flurry of chances for both teams it would be the Raiders who struck first. Davis Vandane worked himself open in the Rebels slot and beat Patrik Bartosak with a wrister for his 10th goal of the season. Carson Perreaux and Leon Draisaitl assisted on the goal making it 1-0 Raiders 15:38 into the game.

SECOND PERIOD

The Raiders doubled their lead while on a second period powerplay. Dylan Busenius with the point shot, Jayden Hart tipped it past Bartosak for his 11th goal on the year, Mark McNeill also earned an assist. 2-0 Raiders 8:19 into the middle frame.

The Rebels got on the scoreboard while on a powerplay of their own. Some great work by Rhyse Dieno and Mathew Dumba led to Haydn Fleury being left wide open. Fleury snapped a shot past Raiders goalie for his fourth goal of the year. Rebels cut their deficit to 2-1 at the 12:00 mark.

THIRD PERIOD

The large crowd at the Enmax Centrium erupted when their Rebels tied the game at the 7:29 mark. Wyatt Johnson set up Scott Feser beside the net with a great pass. Feser was stopped by Siemens but Matt Bellerive was right there to put the puck into the wide open net. Bellerive's 14th of the year tied this game 2-2.

The crowd cheered even louder when the home team took its first lead of the game. Brooks Maxwell fed the puck to Rhyse Dieno who did the rest. He slid the puck between the skates of a Radiers defender then went in alone and beat Siemens for his 25th goal of the season. 3-2 Rebels with 6:10 remaining in the third.

With Wyatt Johnson in the sin bin and the Raiders net empty, Mathew Dumba intercepted a pass in his own zone and set the stage for Turner Elson to seal the deal with an empty net goal. Elson's 21st goal of the season came with 1:01 remaining. Rebels win 4-2.
