FRISCO, TEXAS - Teoscar Hernandez hit two home runs and collected four RBI as the Corpus Christi Hooks defeated the Frisco RoughRiders, 9-3, Friday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The Riders pitching staff struck out a season-high 16 batters in the contest.
The Riders took a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning, but Roberto Pena collected a two-run single and Hernandez belted a three-run shot to cap the five-run frame.
Corpus Christi (14-14, 62-36) got on the board in the first with a solo home run off the bat of Hernandez. Nick Williams countered with a solo shot of his own to lead off the bottom of the first and tie the game, 1-1.
Later in the inning, back-to-back singles put runners aboard and a Preston Beck hit up the middle scored Luis Marte to give the Riders a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the second, Williams knocked a double to right field and Marte sent a RBI single up the middle to give Frisco a 3-1 advantage.
Back-to-back walks opened the door for the Hooks in the third. Jed Lowrie, who is currently on a Major League rehab assignment, contributed a two-out single to score Jio Mier and cut the deficit to one.
Chad Bell struck out eight over five innings in his start for Frisco. The left-hander allowed two runs on five hits in the no decision effort.
Lendy Castillo (2-1) dropped his first decision of the season. He allowed three runs on three hits over 2/3 of an inning. Michael Feliz (4-2) notched his fourth win as he tossed five innings and allowed three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.
A.J. Reed added two insurance runs with a blast in the ninth and Joe Musgrove worked the final four innings to earn his first save, as the Hooks won 9-3 over Frisco.
The RoughRiders (17-10, 46-51) will send LHP Victor Payano to the mound on Saturday against RHP Kyle Westwood. Fans can celebrate Daddy Daughter Date Night during the 7:05 p.m. contest. Dads and daughters will be treated to a meet and greet with Peyton Meyer from Disney Channel's Girl Meets World and can stick around post-game for a Daddy-Daughter Dance in the State Fairway.
