Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release
Cedar Rapids, Iowa- The host RoughRiders scored four unanswered goals on the way to a 5-1 win over the Tri-City Storm Tuesday night.
After the Storm tied the game at one while on the power play at 1:24 of the second period when the puck pinballed into the Cedar Rapids net off Tri-City's Radoslav Illo, the Riders bounced back to take control with three straight second period goals of their own.
Jeff Costello buried a Kyle Flanagan centering pass to snap the deadlock at 5:06 of the second. The Riders then opened up some breathing room by scoring twice in 45 seconds late in the period. Cedar Rapids was on the power play when Scott Winkler snapped a wrist shot home at 17:01 of the second; on the next shift Nick Oddo swept the puck in from the crease to make it 4-1.
Doug Leaverton's blue line blast at 17:38 of the third period capped off the win.
The first goal of the night was perhaps the prettiest- Matt Donovan's superb solo rush gave the Riders a 1-0 lead at 6:08 of the first period.
