Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Moff the Man
For the second time this season, the USHL recognized Lee Moffie as the league's Defensive Player of the Week. Moffie assisted on two goals Friday and two more Saturday; he was +2 for the weekend. The Wallingford, CT native now has a point in four consecutive games. With four goals and 21 assists, Moffie has now climbed into a sixth-place tie for scoring among USHL defensemen. He was previously named Defensive Player of the Week on October 27th. The Hawks' Patrick Wey and Nick Pryor have also earned the honor.
Match the Record?
Saturday's 4-3 loss against the Cedar Rapids Rough Riders was the 15th sell-out in 22 games at Young Arena this season. Black Hawks fans can match the record for sell-outs within the next few weeks. If more than 2,979 people are on hand for both this Saturday's game against Lincoln and next Friday's game versus Indiana, then Hawks fans will have more than a month to break the record of 17 sell-outs set last season.
Birthday Bummer
Tyler Barnes did not have a point last Friday, his 19th birthday. It's been awhile since a Black Hawk was able to celebrate a birthday with success on the scoreboard. April 14, 2007, Vince LoVerde turned 18 and scored a goal in the Hawks' Anderson Cup-clinching win against Cedar Rapids. One day earlier, Blake Kessel recorded a goal against Green Bay on his 18th birthday. Earlier that month, Kyle Reeds turned 19, while scoring a goal and assisting on two others versus Indiana.
Percentage on the Power Play
The Black Hawks scored on seven of nine power play chances last week, a remarkable 77.8%. For the season, the Hawks have tallied a goal on a league-leading 21.4% of power plays.
