Indiana Ice News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Ice announced today that goaltender Brett Bennett was a winner on two fronts this past weekend.
The Williamsville, NY native was selected as the USHL's Goaltender of the Week for the third time this season and landed a college commitment for next season at the University of Wisconsin in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA).
Bennett played a major role in the Ice's two road wins last week. He secured his second shutout of the year stopping all 23 Buccaneers' shots in a 4-0 win at Des Moines last Wednesday and followed that performance with 33 saves in a 3-1 victory at Cedar Rapids on Friday. His overall stat line for the week was a 2-0-0 record, 0.50 goals-against-average and a .982 save percentage.
The 6-2 goaltender joins a Badgers program that currently has three former Ice players on the roster in forwards John Mitchell, Sean Dolan and Aaron Bendickson. The Wisconsin hockey team is annually one of the elite programs in the nation and boasts many players in the NHL including Ottawa Senators star forward Dany Heatley and Detroit Red Wings defensemen Chris Chelios and Brian Rafalski.
Bennett's announcement gives the Ice a USHL-leading 17 Division 1 college commitments.
Indiana hits the road this week for three games in four days. The team will be in Bensenville, IL on Wednesday to face the Chicago Steel and then treks north to North Dakota for games Friday and Saturday against the Fargo Force.
