Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, fell 10-5 in the series finale against the Arkansas Travelers Friday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
The RoughRiders (42-42 overall, 4-11 second half) got on the board in the second inning on a two-run double from Luis Mendez that cut the deficit to 4-2. Ronald Guzman provided some late fireworks, blasting a three-run homer in the eighth inning, bringing the deficit to 10-5 while extending his season-long hit streak to 11 games.
Frisco played from behind early after starter Victor Payano (5-6) allowed four runs in the first inning. Caleb Adams got the ball rolling with a solo home run on the second pitch of the game. The Travelers (38-46, 6-8) countered Frisco's second-inning runs with a run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three in the sixth. Jabari Henry finished 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.
Travelers starter Alex Blackford (5-4) pitched well over his five innings on the mound. He allowed two runs on three hits, while walking two and striking out three to pick up the win.
The Riders wore Game Boy-themed jerseys for Salute to 8-Bit and Arcades Night, in addition to Dallas Police Department hats in support of those affected by the tragic events Thursday night in downtown Dallas. Both items were auctioned during the game to benefit the Assist the Officer Foundation, which supports the families of the fallen officers.
The Riders continue their six-game homestand Saturday at 7:05 p.m., welcoming in the Northwest Arkansas Naturals to begin a three-game series. Right-hander Reed Garrett (2-3, 5.40 ERA) is scheduled to start for the RoughRiders opposite Pedro Fernandez (1-2, 4.03 ERA) for the Naturals. Fans can watch the game on MiLB.tv (subscription required) or listen to the action on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show coverage begins at 6:30 p.m.
