Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release

Cedar Rapids, Iowa- Robert Martini's goal at 8:14 of the third period broke a 3-3 tie and the Indiana Ice went on to defeat the host RoughRiders 5-3 Friday night.

Martini took a cross-ice pass from John Kemp and fired it under the cross bar to snap the deadlock. The assist was Kemp's third of the game.

The Ice finished off the Riders when Nick Bailen flipped the puck into the empty Cedar Rapids net to make it 5-3 with just 3.6 second left in the game.

The Ice actually trailed 3-2 early in the third period after surrendering three straight goals, but Jake Skjodt's second play goal started the Ice on the road to recovery at 4:48 of the third. Skjodt tipped in a Kemp shot to knot it up at three apiece.

The Riders had taken their first lead of the night just two minutes and nineteen seconds earlier when David Boehm steered in a Jacob Cepis centering pass.

Boehm's strike climaxed the Riders' three-goal surge. That run started when Cepis darted into the goalmouth to score shorthanded at 11:14 of the second period. 79 seconds later Doug Jones scored from close range to tie the score at two.

The Riders found themselves in need of a second period rally after the Ice got first period goals from Skjodt and Ron Cramer.
