Ohio trades Derek Danowski to Cedar Rapids for draft pick

December 1, 2006 - United States Hockey League (USHL) - Ohio Junior Blue Jackets News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Junior Blue Jackets traded forward Derek Danowski (Warren, Mich.) to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders for a pick in the 2007 United States Hockey League Draft in May, General Manager Don Harkins announced today.

"As we look to develop our younger players with additional ice time, we felt we couldn't give Derek the kind of playing time he desired," said Harkins. "Derek is a great kid and we wish him the best of luck."

Danowski has one goal and three assists with six penalty minutes in 11 games this season with the Junior Blue Jackets.

Harkins also announced that forward Jason Simota was placed on the 45-day injured reserved with a back injury. Simota has played in eight games this season and has 0-1-1 with four penalty minutes.

"We will really miss Jason's leadership and grit, but his absence will create an opportunity for somebody else to step up," said Harkins.

The Junior Blue Jackets are on the road for the next four games, beginning at Omaha Friday and Saturday. Ohio returns to Nationwide Arena Dec. 12-13 to face the Green Bay Gamblers. Game times are scheduled for 7 p.m. (ET) both days.
