Riders Erase Four-Run Deficit, Win 6-4

FRISCO, Texas - The Frisco RoughRiders overcame a 4-0 deficit with six unanswered runs Thursday night, defeating the Midland RockHounds 6-4 at Riders Field. Blaine Crim knocked his team-best 12th home run of the year in the Thursday win, putting an end to a three-game skid.
Riders' reliever Fer Ozuna stranded the go-ahead run at the plate in the ninth with a strikeout to end the game to pick up his fifth save of the year.
Frisco (30-30) starter Avery Weems gave up four runs on eight hits in his four innings with a pair of walks and seven strikeouts, his most since May 11th. The RoughRiders bullpen arms of Tyler Thomas (1-0), Grant Anderson and Ozuna held Midland off the scoreboard in the final innings and gave up just one hit and a pair of walks behind seven strikeouts.
Midland (28-32) starter Colin Peluse (5-2) tossed 5.1 innings and gave up six runs on eight hits. The RockHounds defense committed four errors Thursday night.
The Hounds threatened early with three hits in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Midland plated one run in the second inning behind an Austin Beck double and a two-run home run from Jordan Diaz in the third to pace an early 4-0 lead.
Frisco began the climb back with an error-filled inning by Midland in the third. J.P. Martinez singled with two outs and stole second base for his team-best 22nd swiped bag of the year. Justin Foscue advanced Martinez to third and reached on a throwing error by shortstop Marty Bechina to keep the inning alive. Midland catcher William Simoneit attempted a back-pick on Martinez at third and sailed his throw off the glove of third baseman Logan Davidson, allowing Martinez to score and make it a 4-1 deficit.
In the following frame, Crim cut the Riders another run closer and led the inning off with his 12th homer of the season. Later in the inning, Jax Biggers singled before Josh Stowers doubled him in in the following at-bat to move the score to 4-3.
Riders left fielder Sandro Fabian continued the comeback by leading off the sixth inning with a single. In the following at-bat, Biggers singled a ball past the glove of Midland center fielder Max Schuemann and plated Fabian from first to tie Thursday's game at 4-4. Frisco catcher Matt Whatley singled and Martinez walked to load the bases, and with two outs, shortstop Jonathan Ornelas pushed the Riders to a 6-4 lead with a two-run single.
Fabian and Biggers led the way offensively for the Riders with multi-hit nights, combining for five of the ten team hits totaled in the Thursday win.
The six-game series continues Friday night at Riders Field with a 7:05 p.m. start, as Frisco LHP Cody Bradford (4-3, 6.80 ERA) makes his 12th start of the season against the RockHounds. Right-hander Jeff Criswell (0-0, 0.00 ERA), drafted by Oakland in the second round in 2020, makes his Double-A debut for the RockHounds Friday night.
