San Antonio Missions News Release
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Missions took the field Thursday night wearing Uvalde Coyotes high school baseball jerseys. These jerseys were auctioned off after the game with the proceeds benefitting the Robb School Memorial Fund. After trailing 3-1 for most of the game, the Missions evened things up in the eighth inning. The magical night fittingly came to an end with a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Deyni Olivero was the starting pitcher for the Amarillo Sod Poodles. After a scoreless inning, the Missions plated the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs in the inning, Thomas Milone hit a single to extend the inning. Following a walk to Connor Kaiser, Milone stole third base. Milone came around to score on a single from Chandler Seagle. Missions took a 1-0 lead.
Lake Bachar was the starting pitcher for the San Antonio Missions. After two scoreless innings, he had some trouble in the top of the third inning. Amarillo took the lead after scoring three runs on just one hit. Roby Enriquez started off the inning by reaching base on a fielding error from Juan Fernandez. After a walk to Andy Yerzy, Drew Stankiewicz drove in Enriquez with a single. Corbin Carroll drove in Yerzy with a sacrifice fly. Lastly, Eduardo Diaz drove in Stankiewicz with a sacrifice fly. Amarillo took a 3-1 lead.
Bachar failed to make it out of the third inning after facing 13 batters in 2.2 innings of work. Moises Lugo came on to pitch and put together a stellar outing. In three innings of work, he allowed one hit while striking out five batters.
For Olivero, he kept the Missions off the scoreboard for the remainder of his outing. He lasted six innings while allowing five hits and striking out five batters. Jeff Bain came on to pitch for Amarillo in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The momentum of the game shifted in the bottom of the eighth inning when San Antonio tied the game. Missions outfielder Tirso Ornelas crushed a 411-foot home run over the right field wall to even up the game.
Liu Fuenmayor, who had come on to pitch following Ornelas' homer, pitched the bottom of the ninth inning. Chandler Seagle started off the inning with a single and was pinch-ran for by Ripken Reyes. Reyes advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt from Connor Hollis. Fuenmayor intentionally walked Korry Howell to place two runners on base. A balk moved both runners into scoring position. Amarillo loaded the bases after issuing an intentional walk to Domingo Leyba. Yorman Rodriguez ended the game with a sacrifice fly to center field which allowed Reyes to score the winning run.
