FORT MILL, S.C. -- Right hander Daniel McCutchen allowed just two runs over seven innings and right fielder Jorge Cortes blasted a two-run home run to lead Indianapolis past Charlotte 3-2 on Friday evening at Knights Stadium.

The Indians improve to 63-71 overall and 28-38 on the road, while the Knights fall to 59-75 on the season and 33-33 at home. With the win Indianapolis avoids the sweep and evens the season series with Charlotte at four wins apiece.

McCutchen (7.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB. 7 SO) picked up the win for Indianapolis, striking out seven in seven innings of work to improve to 6-8 on the season. In relief of McCutchen, RHP Franquelis Osoria (1.0 IP) and RHP Jesse Chavez (1.0 IP, 2 SO) tossed two perfect innings as Osoria picked up his third hold of the season and Chavez notched his 14th save.

Cortes sparked the Indians' offensive attack with a two-run homer to right field in the top of the second inning. The long ball was the first of the season for Cortes and plated DH Michel Hernandez, who led off the inning with single.

The Tribe's other McCutchen, CF Andrew McCutchen, scored the eventual game-winning run for the Indians, when he led off the fifth with a single and eventually trotted home on an RBI base knock by SS Luis Cruz.

Andrew also turned in the only multi-hit performance for either team with a 2-for-5 effort from the plate.

Charlotte plated its only runs in the eighth when C Cole Armstrong led off with a double and RF David Cook followed with a two-run long ball to left. The round-tripper was the seventh of the season for Cook, and the only blemish on starter Daniel McCutchen's otherwise stellar outing.

Knights starter Jack Egbert (7.0 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO) went seven innings, but suffered the loss to drop to 4-11 on the season. Former Indian Franklyn German (1.0 IP, 1 BB, 2 SO) and LHP Scott Sauerbeck (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 SO) combined for two scoreless innings of relief for Charlotte.

The Knights managed only four hits and five total base runners as Indianapolis hurlers combined to strike out nine and walk none.

Indianapolis continues its eight-game road trip with a four-game set at Durham. Indians LHP Corey Hamman is scheduled to start Saturday's 7:05 p.m. opener against Bulls LHP David Price.

The contest will be carried by WXLW-950 AM and www.IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 6:45 p.m.
