
RGV Vipers Give Oklahoma City the Blues

HIDALGO, Texas "" Earl Clark led the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (4-1) with 29 points to a 131-125 win over the Oklahoma City Blue (1-2) tonight at State Farm Arena.
In addition to Clark, the Vipers were led by Houston Rockets assignee Nick Johnson with 24 points. Akil Mitchell added 15 points. Gary Talton scored a double-double 14 points and 13 assists. Raphiael Putney also scored 14 points. Rockets assignee Clint Capela added 12 points, and Tony Bishop scored a double-double 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Semaj Christon led the Blue with 27 points, followed by Mario Little and Michael Jenkins, who each scored 21 points. Talib Zanna added a double-double 16 points and 16 rebounds. Josh Huestis tallied 12 points and Marquis Teague recorded 11 points.
Christon started the game with a jump shot to put OKC on the board. Mitchell responded with a layup to tie the game at 2 points. The Blue followed with three consecutive baskets to take an 8-2 lead. Clark connected on a three-point shot that sent the Vipers on a 8-2 run and gave RGV a 13-8 advantage. RGV held the lead throughout the remainder of the first half and was up 65-56 at the end of the second quarter.
Midway through the third quarter, a dunk from Huestis stole the 77-75 lead for the Blue. Bishop responded with a shot from behind the arc to put the Vipers back on top 78-77. At the end of the third quarter, RGV led 96-88.
With 5:17 left in the game, a free throw from Huestis closed the Blue's deficit to 113-112. Clark sank a shot at the line, and Talton followed with two more free throws to put the Vipers ahead 116-112. OKC closed the gap again to 121-119 with 1:36 on the clock on a layup from Little, but were not able to steal the lead. RGV won 131-125.
The Vipers visit the Santa Cruz Warriors for a pair of road games next weekend. On Friday, Nov. 28 tipoff is set for 9 p.m. (CT). Then, on Sunday, Nov. 30 tipoff is set for 8 p.m. (CT).
