LYNCHBURG, VA - Denyi Reyes and Moisés Chace combined to punch out 12 batters while conceding just four hits and three walks as they pitched the Delmarva Shorebirds to a 3-1 win over the Lynchburg Hillcats on Wednesday night at the Bank of the James Stadium.

For the second straight night, the Shorebirds (3-2) plated multiple runs in the first inning against the Hillcats (0-5).

Luis Valdez walked to begin the game and moved to second on an errant pickoff attempt and then to third on a passed ball. After a strikeout, Darell Hernaiz beat out an infield single to score Valdez. Isaac Bellony then reached on an error which moved Hernaiz up to second and after a flyout Josué Cruz plated Hernaiz with a base hit to rightfield to make it 2-0.

Hernaiz extended the lead out to 3-0 with a solo homer on the first pitch of the third, his first longball of the season.

Lynchburg got that run back immediately in the bottom half of the inning. With two on and two out, Jake Fox came through for Lynchburg with a line drive single to plate a run to cut the 'Birds lead to 3-1.

From there however, the offenses went silent. Reyes faced the minimum across the fourth and fifth before handing the baton off to Chace. Chace held serve and finished the game off by striking out the final five he faced.

Reyes (1-0) collected the win with five innings of one run ball, conceding just three hits and one walk while striking out five.

Franco Aleman (0-1) suffered the loss for Lynchburg after he allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk, striking out five.

Chace collected the save, his first of the year, with four shutout innings, striking out a career high seven, walking two and allowing just one hit.

The Shorebirds and Hillcats go at it again on Thursday night at Bank of the James Stadium for game three of the series. Shane Davis (0-0, 8.10) is the scheduled starter for Delmarva while Lynchburg is yet to announce their starter. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. with pregame coverage of the game beginning at 6:15 p.m. with Sam Jellinek on the call on theshorebirds.com.
