Revs Win Third Straight With Another Extra Inning Triumph

May 30, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release

Bryan Pounds drove in the winning run on a single in the top of the 11th as the York Revolution extended their winning streak to three games with a 4-3 victory over the Camden Riversharks on Saturday night in front of 6,132 fans at Campbell's Field. The Revs have won four of their last five overall, and will continue their road trip to Long Island on Sunday afternoon.

The three-game winning streak ties a season-best for the Revs who picked up their second 11-inning victory in three games. It also notched a fourth consecutive road series win for the Revs who have now won 10 of their last 13 contests on the road.

York struck first in the top of the second inning as Eric Patterson and Brandon Boggs singled to lead off, placing runners at the corners. With one out, Boggs broke for second on an attempted steal, drawing a throw from catcher Jose Gil. Patterson immediately took off for home, beating a low throw from second baseman Paddy Matera for a 1-0 lead on the double steal.

Pounds slugged a two-run homer to straightaway center with two outs in the fifth, extending the York lead to 3-0.

The Riversharks would score the next three runs, drawing even in the middle innings. Held to just one hit through the first four innings, Camden rallied for four singles against York starter Shawn Hill, scoring twice in the fifth inning. Joel Guzman and Carlos Guzman provided back-to-back RBI singles, before Hill retired Gil on an inning-ending double play to complete five innings.

Making his Riversharks debut, Daniel Rockett greeted reliever Ian Durham with a line drive home run down the left field line to lead off the bottom of the sixth, tying the game at 3-3.

From there, it became a chess match between bullpens as neither team scored again until Pounds' decisive hit.

York nearly went in front in the top of the eighth on a one-out single to left by Boggs, but Perez was thrown out at the plate by Rockett.

The Revs then denied the Riversharks in the bottom of the eighth, as Nick Mutz struck out Matera and retired Ryan Strieby on a grounder to deep short as Wilson Valdez made a great off-balance throw to escape a bases loaded jam.

Perez made a bid at giving the Revs the lead in the top of the ninth with a drive to the gap in left-center, but Michael Rockett made a full-extension diving catch to strand two runners.

Johan Limonta worked a walk with one out in the 11th to set the stage for the winning score. With two outs, Valdez' jersey was clipped on a hit-by-pitch, putting two runners aboard. Pounds then fought off a base hit into shallow right, scoring pinch-runner Sean Smith for the 4-3 lead.

Brad Bergesen made quick work of the top of the Riversharks order for a 1-2-3 save, the second of his pro career.

Leyson Septimo (2-1) picked up the win with two perfect innings out of the Revolution bullpen.

Camden reliever Eric Smith (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing the 11th inning run.

Pounds tallied all three RBI for the Revs, and claimed the game-winning RBI for the third time in as many games including both extra-inning contests on the current winning streak. He also extended his hitting streak to 12 consecutive games, tying Mikey Reynolds for the Revs' longest of the season. Pounds finished the series in Camden going 8-for-16 with a double, triple, home run, seven RBI, four runs and six walks against his former team.

Hill took a no-decision, giving up just two runs, working around five hits and four walks over five innings.

Camden starter Zach Clark also went five innings, allowing three runs but only one earned run.
