Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Bridgeport, CT) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (16-18) were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers (14-21) 10-0 on Saturday night at Clipper Magazine Stadium, as the Barnstormers completed a four-game sweep of the series in Pennsylvania. Since being five games over .500 at 13-8 (their high watermark of the season), the 'Fish have since then lost ten of their last 13 games overall.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Scott Maine (1-3) was tagged with the loss, pitching four innings, allowing seven runs and seven hits, walking three, striking out five, while throwing a wild pitch and surrendering two home runs. Lancaster Starting Pitcher Shunsuke Watanabe (2-2) picked up the victory, tossing eight scoreless innings, giving up seven hits, walking one, and striking out six.

Lancaster took the early 3-0 lead in the bottom half of the first inning off Maine. With the bases loaded with Barnstormers, Brian Cavazos-Galvez picked up a two-run single, scoring Yusuke Kajimoto and Tyler Bortnick. Cavazos-Galvez would later score the third run of the inning on an error by Bluefish catcher Ryan Babineau. The Barnstormers would score two more runs off Maine in the bottom half of the second inning on a two-run home run by Bristol, Connecticut native Kevin Rivers, his second roundtripper of the season, and just like that it was 5-0 Lancaster after an inning and a half and they never looked back picking up the wire to wire victory. The 'Fish had a total of eight hits on the evening, with Sean Burroughs, James Simmons, and John Alonso leading the way with a pair of base knocks each for Bridgeport. Welington Dotel swiped his eighth base of the season as well, and he is now tied for fifth in the Atlantic League in stolen bases.
